Cusco launches new tourist routes this year
With the aim of increasing tourist arrivals to the region, authorities in the Andean city of Cusco announced they will launch this year new tourist routes and a rural community-based tourism program. "We have developed several projects worth over 6 million soles, which will be presented to the regional government for approval and implementation," said regional tourism director Victor Hugo Perez. Victor Perez told Andina that a new route has been launched in the 80m deep, 30km long Suicutambo canyon in Cusco’s Espinar province, which is near the rapids of the Apurimac River.
"The place includes archaeological sites of the pre-Incan Cana culture, such as the Tacrachullu Fortress and the citadels of Maucallacta, Maria Fortalezas and Canamarca, among other attractions," he said.
The tourism official said the Anta town is another route worth visiting. Located 25 km from Cusco city, this beautiful plain has considerable agricultural and livestock potential. "We plan to undertake infrastructure works which will last approximately two years," he said.
