Peru: Lambayeque tourism grew 5% in 2009
Tourism in the northern Peruvian region of Lambayeque grew by 5% this year, announced regional tourism director Salvador Hoyos Vasquez. Hoyos told Andina that this is an encouraging figure for Lambayeque, which teamed up with other neighboring regions to launch new tourist routes in the north of Peru. “Until November we received some 500000 tourists, up 60000 compared to last year's figure in the same period,” he said. The PromPeru official mentioned that this year Lambayeque will continue to promote the Moche Route along with the regions of La Libertad and Tumbes and also the departments of San Martin, Loreto, and Cajamarca. “We aim to increase tourist arrivals to this part of the country, attracting more tourists to all these regions and Lambayeque,” he added. “We will diversify our tourist offer with new archaeological tours and gastronomy,” he noted.
