Cusco-based top hotels likely to reduce rates to attract domestic t

Four and five star hotels located in Cusco department are assessing the possibility of reducing their rates from April, in order to attract domestic tourism and maintain the demand of this destination affected by heavy rains of recent days, Peru's Hotel Society (SHP) reported Wednesday.

“Unfortunately due to heavy rains, hotel bookings have fallen. Now, we have to work alongside the State in the recovery of this tourist destination,” Peru's Hotel Society General Manager Tibisay Monsalve said.

In that sense, she pointed out that the recovery in levels of hotel bookings is related to how the Peruvian Government works in the promotion of Cusco destination.

“In the short term this issue must be focused on the promotion to domestic tourism and bordering countries, because the idea is to support the demand,” she told Andina News Agency.

A medium and long-term strategy will be that from April, when Machu Picchu is opened again, special rates can be offered to boost the recovery.
