Peru's gastronomic circuit sales totaled over US$ 13.8 billion in 2

Peru’s gastronomic circuit sales totaled more than 40 billion soles (US$ 13.8 billion) in 2009 as the sector continued growing strongly, reported the Peruvian Institute of Gastronomy (IPG).

“In the last years, Peru's gastronomy has been experiencing an explosive growth, generating not only sales but also creating thousands of jobs across the country”, stated the IPG’s director Andres Ugaz.

According to a report of Arellano Marketing consulting firm, the commercial movement created by the gastronomic business during last year represented 11.9 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

This amount includes the consumption of Peruvians and foreigners in more than 66,000 restaurants all over the country, as well as the sales of food stands and of the entire agricultural production chain (which produces the ingredients).

However, Ugaz said that there are still some points of the gastronomic circuit that had to be completed to consolidate the restaurants’ growth.
