Moche ceramics to be exhibited in France

Over 100 ceramic pieces from Moche culture – housed at the Archaeological Museum Rafael Larco Herrera in the district of Pueblo Libre – will be exhibited in Paris (France) from March 9 to May 23.
Education Ministry authorized Rafael Larco Association to take 126 pieces out of the country. These items will be on display as part of the exhibition entitled “Sexe, mort et sacrifice dans la religion Mochica", that includes bottles, jugs, bowls and glasses.
A resolution published on Friday in the official gazette El Peruano -authorizing the association to take part of the Cultural Heritage items out of the country- details that the National Institute of Culture will check their characteristics, preservation and authenticity.
The exhibition -to be held at the Quai Branly Museum: a collection of art and artefact from African, Asian, Oceanic and American civilisations– explores the relation among sexual practices, death and power in the Moche culture during the pre-Hispanic era.
Mariana Watson, marketing manager of the Rafael Larco Museum, explained that the archaeologist Steve Bourget (University of Texas), specialist of the Moche culture, has recently carried out a study to demonstrate that all the erotic representations of this origin are subject to a certain cultural context.
