Tumbes promotes itself as capital of cebiche

The northern Peruvian region of Tumbes will host its first “Tumbes, Capital of Cebiche” food festival on February 26 in order to position itself as the most attractive destination to taste this delicious dish and enjoy its beaches, said Walfo Alonso Lopez, head of the Regional Directorate for Foreign Trade and Tourism (Dircetur).

The event will take place at the Main Square from 11:00 hours and is expected to receive more than 10,000 people including local and foreign tourists, mostly from neighboring Ecuador.

“We will set up 65 stands in which several restaurants, public and private entities, as well as Tourism and Hotel Management faculties of three universities and one institute will present the different styles and varieties that cebiche of Tumbes flaunts”, he told Andina.

Lopez added that the northern department, which borders on Ecuador, provides a vast variety of hydrobiological and agricultural products that complement this delicious dish.

This event is supported by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), which has committed to participate in this first festival of cebiche with the presence of a nationally and internationally renowned cheff.

“The attenddees will no only taste this delicious dish, but will also enjoy a great musical show that we are preparing”, the head of Dircetur said.
