Flow of international flight passengers rose 5.66% in 2009
The air traffic in international regular flights to Peru totaled 4 million 805,970 passengers from January to December 2009, a 5.66 percent increase compared to 2008 (4 million 548,132 passengers), the General Administration of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC) reported Tuesday. According to statistics, the highest number of passengers was registered in January with 432,638 people, followed by March with 426,395 passengers. August 2009 recorded the third highest number of passengers (421,629), followed by July (411,821 passengers); while December recorded 397,640 passengers.
In 2009, the flight route with the most passengers was Buenos Aires (Argentina) – Lima with 260,359 passengers, while only in December the route that registered most passengers was Santiago de Chile - Lima (23,557).
A year ealier, the flight route with the most passengers was Miami (United States) - Lima with 250,149 passengers; and only in December this same route recorded 23,202 passengers. Lan Peru was the airline that carried most passengers in 2009, which added to Lan Airlines flights, leads the Peruvian market with a joint participation of 40 percent and a total of one million 919,403 passengers carried.
