Wiñay Wayna: An ancient citadel on the Inca Trail
Wiñay Wayna is one of the great Inca attractions that can be found on the way to Machu Picchu in Cusco.
Wiñay Wayna means “forever young”. It is an ancient Inca citadel located on the Inca Trail, the route leading adventurers to Machu Picchu in Cusco.
Wiñay Wayna has two sections, one lower and one upper, that are connected by a long staircase. The sectors are shaped by agricultural terraces and buildings that were built with granite elements, where you can admire the same architecture as Machu Picchu.
From Wiñay Wayna you can see the Urubamba River, located 900 meters. This site can be a great adventure for any traveler and is one of the dozens of Andean attractions that can be seen from the Inca Trail, which is considered a very difficult route to get to one of the wonders of the world.However, to be able to cross the trail you must book a tour months in advance and also be physically prepared and properly acclimatized.
